Happy Memorial Day!

Chi-Dot B-17 Flying Fortress

I just wanted to wish everyone here in the States a happy Memorial Day! Here at Holy Shock, we want to send a big thank you out to all of the service members who work hard to protect this great country. I hope everyone has a great day and a safe day!

In case you were wondering, that is a picture of my Grandfather's B-17 from World War II.

My father-in-law, Leonard Nakielny is pictured in the back row, 4th from the left; he was the pilot for this crew. Chi-Dot is short for Chicago Dorothy, his wife. I have been searching for nose art of the Chi-Dot but have found nothing. Thanks for remembering the name, I thought that it might have been forgotten!

Hey tpbison, I will check with my grandmother and ask her if we have any of the artwork. If we do then, I will reach out to you and we can work out an arrangement to get you the copies of the image.

I consider it a blessing to have her living with me and at 99, she still remembers all about the crew and the war. Great to hear from you.

Check out this picture of the crew from the 487th Bomb group; maybe your grandmother will recognize these guys. I talked with Frank Piskur's nephew about a year ago.

That is a pretty nice looking site. I did speak with my mom and grandmother last night, and they do believe they have some pictures with the artwork of the plane.

They are going to look and once they find it, they will forward it over to me.

These guys were very helpful and I was able to get copies of orders assigning the crew to the 487th and copies of the mission logs detailing aircraft tail numbers flown.
